EDUCATOR INSIGHTS

Weekly insights for your journey as an Insightful Educator

Hello Insightful Educators

One of my favorite things to do is grab coffee with someone and catch up on the books, podcasts, TED talks, articles, shows, and people influencing them.

So, alongside the full newsletter, I push out a weekly edition of insights I think you will find influential in your journey as an Insightful Educator.

Think of it as you and I grabbing coffee and jamming on what’s influencing us at this time.

Feel free to reply with what you are finding helpful and invite a friend to subscribe! The more people around the table…the better!

The Book I’d Recommend

I’m right in the middle of a great book for anyone, but especially for educators and school leaders.

It is Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most written by Miroslav Volf, Matthew Croasmun, and Ryan McAnnally-Linz

This book is both grounding and disruptive—in all the right ways. The central question it asks is simple, but bold: What makes a life truly worth living? Drawing from ancient wisdom traditions and philosophy, the authors challenge readers to move beyond achievement and productivity toward a more rooted, intentional way of being. It’s not a self-help book. It’s a slow, thoughtful meditation on what really matters—and how to build a life around those things. It’s the kind of book educators should be discussing during professional development sessions and faculty meetings. It’s the kind of book that should drive the thinking we do around genuine education. I’ve been reading it with a pen in hand and a journal nearby, and I can’t wait for you to engage it as well!

Two key quotes:

  • When you think about not just one or another choice, but about the shape of your life as a whole, whose perspective (or perspectives) ultimately counts in assessing whether you’re living a life worthy of our shared humanity?

  • The question with which we should be wrestling is not “What do we want?” but rather “What is worth wanting?”

I’m sure you can see why I’m so high on this book. In fact, it’s so impactful I’m planning on dedicating an entire future newsletter to its premise (so stay tuned!)
