EDUCATOR INSIGHTS
Weekly insights for your journey as an Insightful Educator
Hello Insightful Educators
One of my favorite things to do is grab coffee with someone and catch up on the books, podcasts, TED talks, articles, shows, and people influencing them.
So, alongside the full newsletter, I push out a weekend edition of insights I think you will find influential in your journey as an Insightful Educator.
Think of it as you and I grabbing coffee and jamming on what’s influencing us at this time.
Feel free to reply with what you are finding helpful and invite a friend to subscribe! The more people around the table…the better!
Book I’d Recommend
Time to Learn: How a New School Schedule is Making Smarter Kids, Happier Parents, and Safer Neighborhoods by Christopher Gabrieli
In Time to Learn, Christopher Gabrieli makes a compelling case for reimagining one of the most overlooked levers in education: time. Drawing on research and real-world examples, Gabrieli shows how expanded learning time can unlock deeper engagement, close achievement gaps, and empower schools to educate the whole child. This isn’t just about longer days—it’s about better use of time to serve both academic goals and student well-being. For school leaders exploring sustainable innovation and equity-driven change, this book offers a powerful framework and practical inspiration. This book was a game changer for me when I went about creating the Odyssey Leadership Academy model, and it is jam-packed with so many great ideas for thinking about how time can be a source of inspiration and transformation in schools.
Quotes from Time to Learn:
“The school calendar and schedule are not sacred—they’re inherited. And what we inherit, we can reimagine.”
A powerful reminder that transformative change often starts with questioning long-held assumptions about time in schools.
“More time is not just about doing more of the same. It’s about doing more of what matters—deeper learning, broader experiences, and real relationships.”
A call to design school days that truly reflect our values: engagement, equity, and flourishing.
