The Edupreneur's Field Guide
A Resource For Those Ready To Do Something New In Education
I am launching a book!
Well, actually a series of books…and podcasts…and newsletters…and field guides…and webinars…
All with the goal of providing a constellation of resources for those ready to take the next step in seeing education and schools transformed!
Most of you know by now that my life’s work and mission is to change the narrative of education so that every student in every school has the opportunity to flourish and thrive
To see every acorn become the robust oak tree they were created to be!
The beginning of this work was the launch of Odyssey Leadership Academy, an award winning, groundbreaking, innovative school pioneering education as a:
hub of innovation and creativity
community of care and belonging
place of purpose and meaning
OLA was never meant to be a one off school. It was always meant to be a model on a mission to help tell a better story for every school, everywhere!
With Odyssey in its ninth year breaking all the rules, it is time to extend the work of reimagining education to other learning communities.
Time to open the playbook, to crack open an entire ecosystem of resources for systemic change
Which leads me to excitedly announce the next resource headed your way:
—A resource for the pioneers, the innovators, the disrupters, the dreamers
—A resource for those whose burning questions keep them up at night
—A resource for those ready to tell a better story for students
A resource for the educational entrepreneur—the edupreneur—looking to start something big, bold, impactful, and game changing in learning!
The Edupreneur’s Field Guide Launches Now!
Here is an excerpt
There is a great quote by the French writer Antoine de Saint Exupéry that I think about and use often:
“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work; rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea"
Before I ever opened the doors of OLA, I invited anyone willing to listen to long for something new, something better in education.
I did not start out with the facts of the school.
Instead, I started with a series of What If questions that cast a vision that spoke not to their heads, but to their hearts, to what they wanted most for their child in the deep marrow of their bones.
What if, instead of sitting in desks and rows, the class sat in a circle, looking each other in the eye as if they were sitting around a campfire?
What if the students’ questions, curiosity, passion, and wonder drove the learning in every class?
What if, instead of taking six classes a day, with students running all over the building in five minute spurts frantically trying to keep six or seven subjects in their heads at a time (and trying to keep up with hours of homework in all these classes), they took one class at a time, allowing them to go deep, with plenty of time to explore, create, design, collaborate, innovate, and even lead out in the learning?
What if we designed courses to intersect and overlap the subjects in ways that not only make more sense, but open the playbook for wonder, discovery, engagement, and enjoyment?
What if we reimagined the role of “teacher” as more than content deliverer? What if we created room and space for the educator to be the mentor, the guide, the one who calls out the best in students on a daily basis?
What if we emphasize purpose and meaning, belonging and community, creativity and inquiry?
I started asking these big, bold “What If…” questions, questions I believed spoke to the hope that existed in the hearts and minds of enough parents for their child that they might make this dream of a new vision of education become a reality.
And they did!
